Current political parties in the Senate

This is a list of all current political parties in the United State Senate

The American political system is a two-party system. A two-party system is a system where two political parties occupy the majority of the political landscape. Third parties may still emerge and occasionally win a few elections.
At any given time, one of the two main parties holds a majority and is usually referred to as the majority, ruling party, or a governing party, while the other is the minority or opposition party.

The modern system of political parties in the United States is dominated by the two major parties, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. These two parties have won every U.S. presidential election since 1852 and have controlled the U.S. Congress more or less since at least 1856. There are many minor parties or third parties such as the Libertarian, Green, Reform, Independent, and others that have won seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives throughout history, but the success of these parties is rare.
